elmeresmith@volcano.net Returned from Pusan Korea on the Uvalde. I believe July of '55. Arrived at San Pedro. The USMC rear echelon of the 1st 90mmGun Battalion bunked in with the crew and we helped stand watches. The ship carried our vehicles and other gear. Looking at this website brings back memories. I recall getting a terrible sunburn which I couldn't get treated because it was an offense to get a self-inflicted disablement. Also recall napping during the day in the little "gyro" room. Former Sgt USMC-- Elmer Smith
ahoylovv@cconnect.net I was the Electronics Officer from March 67 until the decommissioning in 1968. Now live in New Bern NC. Larry Lovvorn

rlang@hvc.rr.com I served on board for 9 months, between 62 & 63. Bob Lang RM2. First met the ship in PR. The ship tied up outside the Sandoval. CID jumped aboard before anyone could get off. Someone was missing. Remember the Cuban blockade. I was discharge when the ship departed on Med cruise. Always regretted not extending.
bosunjack2@aol.com Great duty on the Uvalde '44 & '45 The war ended and she left Sesabo for Brisbane. What duty! Later to New Guinea for Christmas and back to Sydney. No one wanted to go home.
rlang@hvc.rr.com Correction on previous entry from Bob Lang. I believe the ship we tied up next to in San Juan was the Francis Marion. Sorrry, got confused.
matpoc@hotmail.com Phil, Thanks for the great info available on the site! Any idea of how to obtain a complete crew roster for the Uvalde? My father's itching to see who else he can remember! Thanks, Melissa Lystad Daughter of Willie L. Angell (BM)
