The 8th Uvalde reunion was held October 10-12 2000 in San Antonio, Texas

This was the first reunion I had attended. I was not sure what to expect, as far as I knew there would be no one there that I served with. There was however several new friends that I had made contact with over the internet,  writing letters and sending e-mail during the past 18 months or so. It did not take long to break the ice and soon we were all talking of our time on the Uvalde our time in the navy and our lives in general. We came from many different states, had different occupations, and served on the Uvalde up to 20 years apart.  We were all sailors and we are shipmates.

On October 11th we toured Uvalde Texas there we took a group picture near the historical marker. A plaque, the ships bell and anchor.

While we were in Uvalde we were greeted warmly by the mayor, members of the Historical Commission and El Progresso Library.  It was a trip worth while and nice to know that after all the years the city still remembers the ship and the men who served on her.

On Thursday We had a tour of Fredericksburg TX and the Nimitz Museum
