tercarol78@comcast.net Served aboard Uss Uvalde 1955-1957 Decommissioned ship at Vallejo Navy Shipyards in fall or winter of 1957? then I had about 7 months left in the Navy and was assigned to the Mothball fleet at Vallejo the remainder of my enlistmaent was dischared in April 1958 on an early out from Treasure Island Naval Base.

pburkha@hotmail.com My brother, Dan Burkhardt, served on the Uvalde from 1962 until his discharge in 1964. He was aboard for the Cuban crisis and Mediterrean cruise. I think he was a Boatswain's mate, 3rd class. He good buddy was "Ski" Wisniewski. He once told me his service years were the best years of his life. He is gone now but finding this site has been a real treasure for me. Makes it seem like he is right here beside me. Pat Burkhardt

OR LTJG WRIGGLEY HE WOUNDED A COUPLE OF MORE BEFOR MAKING HIS WAY TO THE FLYING BRIDGE WHERE HE STAY UNTIL LATE IN THE DAY BEFOR HE FINALLY SURRENDERD AND CAME DOWN, AS I RECALL WE WERE TIED UP IN OAKLAND AT THE TIME, A SQUAD OF MARINE SHAR SHOOTERS WERE DISPATCHED TO THE SHIP AND I REMEMBER ON TELLING THE LT. bobruyle@alltel.net As the coordinator for the UVALDE SHIPS REUNIONS I would like to invite all of you to make every effort to attend the 2008 reunion which will be held in UVALDE, TEXAS where the main mast, one of the ships anchors and the ships bell is to be found on main street. Also many items from the ship are on display at the new Library/Museum so we look for as many as can attend to be there!

There may be some out there when reading this crack a little smile I do know there were very good times while in the US NAVY. My father was very proud of the service to our freedom as well as my Brothers and I share the same.
